Net net. Has it been good for humanity?
And I mean NET NET.
i.e. When you put a line under it all, is it positive or negative? You might say that is impossible to tell. Maybe so. But here is my assessment.
NO.
It has been diabolical. (and I do mean evil.) But there is a fantastic upside. First, why has it been bad for humanity?
Collectively, we more connected in bits and bytes, yet individually, people are more fractured than before.
It has exposed our dirty secrets and personal flaws (by amplifying them), and given new fuel to the continuing mechanization of humanity.
Since the industrial revolution, machines have been training us to do what they want. Initially, it was machines serving us (so we thought), and now its become “us serving machines”. We became the robot, doing what the ever-hungry machine (phone, app, social media) needs.
The internet has amplified our faults and thus, shown us how far we really have fallen on the inside of our being.
The internet has accelerated the end of this civilization.
And in the same way, the silver lining is… the internet has accelerated the ending of this civilization.
i.e. We have been enslaved for 1,000’s of years, and now many are waking up to the fact that something is very wrong?
Some know exactly what it is.
Others know it in their gut, and perhaps even see things are very sideways, but not sure what “it” is, or what’s next.
The question is, What will we do with this opportunity?
If we embrace the mirror, we might end up with a civilization of the “normies” or the “Lucy’s” and if we don’t, we’ll barrel towards neo-feudalism and the “AI / machine” civilization, which is further enslavement.
You can read the article about these three streams of humanity here.
It is an exciting time to be alive. Our choices in these coming days may bring a new renaissance beyond what anyone can imagine, or a new period of extended enslavement (the AI / Machine civilization).
Fun times :)
